Introduction
In the darkest corners of Thailand, child prostitution and organ sales flourish. In order to save a child's life, another child's organ must be taken. An outraged Japanese journalist and a young, passionate Japanese NGO (Non-governmental Organization) staff attempt to save children of the dark, from being consumed by arrogance and greed. However, the harsh realities of lice intervene. --Shochiku Films

Story
Human life and the human heart are never supposed to be for sale. However, today, unchecked arrogance and greed permit both to be sold on the open market. Tragically, despite wide public acknowledgement, organ sales, child prostitution, and slavery continue to proliferate. Children of the Dark is a film that fearlessly tackles the ugly depths of the human heart, hurling the first, most damning stone at the core of Japanese society, and also the world. It is not a film that aspires to entertain its audiences. However, by exposing these problems to audiences worldwide, there is a hope taking steps to resolve them. The film unflinchingly portrays the tragic realities unfolding today and raises the consciousness of everyone who sees it. Director Sakamoto notes The problems these children face are at the root of all problems in the world. He directs sincerely and powerfully with a talented multinational cast to bring these stark events to life. --Shochiku Films

Bubu, thanks for making the front page for this film! Its commendable that they are making a film to raise public awareness about all the horrible forms of child exploitation found in remote regions of Thailand and Southeast Asia. I don't think its been done before very often, so I'm glad the Japanese media is trying to raise awareness of what goes on for these poor children in those remote villages (away from the public eye).

As for the cast, I'm glad Miyazaki Aoi is going to be in it. So far, she's been doing an excellent job portraying Atsu in the 2008 taiga Atsu-hime. Ironically, one of the other cast members, Tamabuki Satoshi, is going to be the star of the 2009 taiga, Tenchijin!

Hopefully UTB or Magicbell might air this movie down the line.

---
Wishing everyone a happy and wonderful 2009!

Tenjichin is going to be worth waiting for I think. the story must be so full of history and the cast is wonderful. I would watch anything with Kitamura Kazuki in any role.
This will be a long taiga...forty nne episodes.

Can't wait to see this.

Me too, Peg -- Tenchijin also looks like it is going to have a pretty well rounded cast. I saw Abe Hiroshi listed in the cast, and he's one of my favorite J-actors. I'm looking forward to it!
