@CindyW88

Broadcasting station, especially television drama production, is often called as the core of desire and materialism. TV station is the place of envy for many people, but they also criticize it as the place where unethical thoughts are generalized. However, those who work in drama production team are not different from us; they are common people who need love and care just like others. Most of Korean dramas are focused on family problems and troubled relationships between lovers. However, for the moderners, workplace is where they spend most of their time. If one fails to build decent relationships with others in his workplace, it would be hard to read his life as a success. “Worlds Within” will bring out the stories of drama production staffs; the warm, touching stories of their love and life.
CAST & CHARACTERS (courtesy of Soy of Soompi)

Image
Song Hye Kyo as Joo Joon-Young
'Why did you break up with me? What did I do...' class ul She garners a lot of attention as a new PD at the station. She is straight forward, with a passion for her work. She has a comraderie with her coworkers. She is enjoying a satisfying love life. She is a confident, considerate PD. Hardly anyone realizes she can get her heart tugged by something quite trivial. She just wants to be regarded as a confident colleague in this world of PDs dominated by men, a rival to be reckoned with, instead of pity and exagerated attention.Image
Kim Yeo Jin as Lee Seo Woo (Drama scriptwriter) class ul She has a lot to say and she always says it as directly and bluntly as she pleases. She is a drama scriptwriter with her own unique style and interpretation of blazing words both in life and in her drama scripts.
She is described as meticulous and always produces her works promptly on deadlines. She has also heard people constantly saying she is too egoistic. She is never into relationships, devoting herself wholeheartedly to her work.
Image
Lee Da In as Kim Min Hee (Assistant Director)
'Senior, do you know you are a bit abnormal?' class ul She has a pretty face, but puts no effort into clothes and appearance. Her mannerisims and the way she talks is exactly like a boy. She is an assistant director who idolizes Joon-Young and Ji-Oh.Image
Hyun Bin as Jung Ji Oh
'This is why...I have to break up with you...' class ul With a couple successful dramas under his belt, his works enjoyed both high ratings and critical acclaims. He is a sensitive, righteous, caring and passionate guy. Looked upon by many colleagues as
a role model. He loves movies, aspires to be a movie director. But he can't live without a steady monthly wage for the time being. He has thoughts of leaving the TV station and works for production companies on a commission basis for higher pay, but he feels they regard dramas as money making machines, therefore, he didn't leave... no, to be frank, maybe he's afraid of the harsh world out there.
Image
Uhm Ki Joon as Song Gyu Ho
'I am used to disregarding hordes of people just like you, and I have never regretted it.' class ul A TV drama PD, he will do everything and anything for ratings. His work is ranked the first out of all the big 3 TV channels in ratings. An insolent, selfish, calm, cool, and collected guy who enjoys being manipulative, needless to say he is not popular among his peers. He has a drastically different set of priorities regarding TV dramas as opposed to Ji-Oh's. According to the crew, JO is the good, GH the evil. To Gyu-Ho, he's just being
pragmatic, nothing to fuss over.
Image
Seo Hyo-Rim as Jang Hae-Jin
'If you really think nothing of me and dump me, you will regret this very, very, very much!' class ul She was the chairman of her idol's fanclub during highschool, nowadays she is an aspiring actress. For someone like her who looks at life through rosy glasses, everything is fun and play. She has never dreamed of becoming an actress, not until she met KH [?]. Suddenly she develops an interest in this arrogant man.Image
Bae Jung-Ok as Yoon Young
'Is this world worth all this work?' class ul She is the evil diva in the eyes of the PDs, crew, and younger artists alike. She swept all the awards in TV and movie when she was younger. After several divorces, she is a single woman again, restarting her acting career and is awaiting her next peak.Image
Kim Gab Soo as Kim Min Chul (Drama Director)
'2 divas are forced together, this is going to be a fun mess!' class ul He tasted success very early on and swiftly climbed to the post of Drama Director of the station at a young age. He had his strings of successful works which did very well at the ratings. He can handle both ratings and quality while sitting comfortably at his desk, that's why he's praised as the most powerful drama director in history.

The PD Pyo Min-soo is my absolute favorite. Any project of his is one I will watch without knowing anything about it. He is just great and in his frequent collaboration with the writer Noh Hee-kyung, they produce truly awesome, riveting drama. Then there is Hyun Bin. No further comment necessary! emoticon

Luxurious Set-Up for "The World They Live In"

Image class ul The KBS 2TV drama "The World They Live In" has established itself as the season's new "luxury" drama, with a top-tier composer and photographer added to its crew for the original soundtrack and drama poster.

Yeon Yeong Entertainment produced the drama and announced on the 27th that they had hired Kim Hyung-suk, esteemed composer and producer (drama "All-In," movie "My Sassy Girl"), for the soundtrack to the drama, as well as singers Kim Jo-han, Na Yoon-kwon and As One.

The drama's O.S.T. will be released early next month and the theme song will be sung by Kim Jo-han. "We wanted a 'luxury soundtrack' to suit our 'luxury drama,'" said the agency. "We want this drama to be outstanding in every way."

The poster for the drama was shot by well-known photographer Cho Sun-hee. The shoot took place on the 14th at Anmyeon-do Island of Taean in Chungcheongnam-do.

The drama set is located in a studio at Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and it was the first drama set built by Art Service, a company which has only done movie sets in the past.

A "PD" is the director of a drama. I'm not sure exactly what the "P" stands for but assume it is either Program Director or Producer Director.

Thank you! How about one more question? When a word is subbed as "yes" it sounds like they are saying "dhae" How would one spell the yes word?

Short answer: Yes: ne/ye (pronounced nay or yay)

"Dae/deh" is problematic all on its own. I couldn't find any reference at all in googling it and I spent considerable time doing so. Maybe someone fluent in Korean can help us here, as I think it is one of those terms that has many different shades of meaning other than a simple "yes."

Long answer: Seems like an easy question but it isn't. Hangul (Korean) is a phonetic language that has a lot of variation when trying to write it in English. For example, Tom Cruise is always spelled Tom Cruise in English. But the actor playing Jumong may be spelled Song Il Kuk, Song Il Guk, Song Il Gook.

This is mainly because English and Hangul (Korean) do not have the same sounds in their languages. Notorious examples are "G" and "K" and "B" and "M". While in English we have separate sounds for G/K, B/M, the Koreans have one sound that is sort of a blend in between. Thus Song Il Kuk/Gook/Guk.

Or take the English phrase "I'm sorry." Most of us would swear this word begins with a "B" sound (Bianhada). But the official Korean spelling in English begins with an "M" (Mianhada or the more formal Mianhamnida).

There are some English letters that have no equivalent sound in Korean. For example, "F." Korean has no "F" sound, instead substituting the "P" sound. Thus, a word in English like "coffee" becomes "coppee" in Korean.

nchristi ---very interesting.....as I listen to show after show, i think some things are beginning to sound familiar, and then there is a discrepancy i a particular actors pronunciation. The other thing that actually we find amusing is the definite emphasis that the older folks place on a word/phrase with that gutteral extension! Do you know what I mean? Iseok is so good at it, as is G'ma in dead upset!!
