• Synopsis
Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4’s bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school.

Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a tough weed. She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa.

The series is based on the Japanese shoujo manga Hana Yori Dango (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko.

I can’t recommend HYD more. A brilliant effort at reproducing an ageless love story onscreen.I just got this set but have not had the opportunity to see it yet. I went to look around here to see if there was discussion on this series, but was surprised there wasn't a thread about this series yet, so I decided to make one. Has anyone watched this series?

SR, does your set have e-subs? This might be a good candidate for "J-drama club" discussion. I would be interested in many J-dramas, but need e-subs.

In the past, we haven't had anyone posting on J-dramas other than what has been aired locally here in SoCal—which is extremely limited. Looks as though you are going to be our resource for rounding up some interesting works. emoticon

I have not watched this yet as I have been busy in our K-Drama club with Forbidden Love. I got my set on ebay, and from what I have seen on a few episodes (to test if the episodes and dvd loads) it does have English subs. It's a dvr set though, but e-sub sets are very easy to find on ebay!

I would definitely be interested in having this or any other for our J-Drama club if there are enough interested people!

I don't mind waiting for others either if people want to sign up for watching this, or we can vote on watching another series too!

I just got the Gokusen sets so I have that to keep me company as well, if there is interest in seeing HYD for a club viewing.

Also Hana Yori Dango is available at dramaffa.com (on the respective page, click Extra Links) and aznv.tv for downloading or streaming, respectively.

This drama is really good, but I've already done watching this late last month. and have move on to something already. other than just got done watching Moto Kare (another good drama). I like Dohmoto Tsuyoshi and Hirosue Ryoko pairings in a drama.

It's good to hear this is a good one, too bad we missed each other by only a short period of time. It would have been nice to watch this together with a group, though we'll see how this thread develops.

In the mean time, I should be starting Gokusen later this week, and I have very high expectations for it. emoticon

I just finished watching this last week and I was pleasantly suprised. I was cautious as the description didn't sound all that appealing and I'm not a big fan of any of the leads. However, what I enjoyed was the acting and direction. It's based on a manga and it played beautifully to that genre. It was if they'd taken the manga and directly created the dorama from it. The acting was terrific. I highly recommend it: especially to those who enjoyed Goong.

Good to hear that this is getting generally high praise. I can't wait to see this one now!

I'm currently watching Gokusen 1 and will try to finish this and Gokusen 2 by next week. I really am loving these J-Dramas. emoticon

I hope to see the entire Trick series after going through Gokusen and Hana Yori Dango.
