Thanks so much for the front page, Bubu!

I was also ecstatic when I found out that Magicbell is bringing back their drama timeslot to KXLA. It was tough without another drama to watch on Sunday nights, but now we get this timeslot back.

I was also relieved that Magicbell chose to air the second season of Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan. The first season was so light and enjoyable, so I'm glad they decided to give the second season a go. Looks like we see some of the old characters from Season 1 as well as some new faces. This starts in a little less than a month but I sure am excited!!

Wishing everyone a happy and wonderful 2009!

Nice work, bubu! Thanks for the good news about the return of this charming little drama for another season. People complain about the lack of wholesome family entertainment on tv just aren't looking in the right places or rattling the right cages. There's still a bit of magic in that old bell yet! emoticon

Yay! I was just looking at the correlation chart and the cast and it seems Kurokawa Tomoka stars in this season! She was in some UTB dramas that were aired a while back like the asadora Kokoro and 'Till the Batteries Run Out. She does look rather grown up by now though!

I'm already looking forward to Episode 3...

I was just looking over the Supporting Cast & Guests listing, and saw that Saotome Taichi will appear in that episode. I hope they will feature a dance number in the episode.

Only sixteen years old, he's already an extremely popular onnagata (female impersonator) with a huge fan following.

I didn't know it at the time, but I first saw him in 2003 as a child geisha, in the Takeshi Kitano film, Zatoichi. Then I saw him perform at last years Kohaku, and was completely blown away at just how talented of a dancer he is.

Official Blog: http://www.taichi-blog.jp/ (Japanese)

Some clips from YouTube:
Saotome Taichi - Yozakura Oshichi MV
58th Kohaku with Sakamoto Fuyumi
• Santaku 2008, the annual TBS New Years special variety show.
In these clips, the hosts, Akashiya Sanma and Kimura Takuya get tips on becoming onnagata. (Kimu-taku is actually pretty good!)

Re: J-Drama: 浅草ふくまる旅館 (Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan - Season 2)

bubu,
Loved this post and watched the youtube clips. I am not surprised that Kimura san can do this so well. I have his photobook made about ten years ago and he was then doing onnegata type photos as a Shanganese 'lady of the night' .. He looked so genuine that if you didn't know ahead of time, then you would think you were looking at a fabulous woman in gorgeous clothes of the thirties. A real femme fatale....

Kimura san is a wonderful mimic and impressionist even without any makeup or special clothes. His presentation as that older actor who played a unique type of detective, was incredible. His face was changed without makeup and it was the older actor exactly. Don't know how he did it. Can't think of the name..began with 'M'...?

What talent from the young sixteen year old dancer. Such dedication at that age is rare.

That's awesome that Saotome Taichi is going to make a guest appearance on Fukumaru Ryokan 2! I agree Bubu -- hopefully he'll do a dance number or performance during the episode. If he does, the hotel guests sure are lucky to be seeing him perform live right there!

Its remarkable that he is so young and is also so dedicated and talented. He will have a successful career with that devotion.

Thank you again for those youtube clips bubu. I was really impressed with the way they made even Sanma behave himself. He usually plays the comic side of anything and laughs his head off. This time I think he tried hard to be respectful and Kimura certainly played the role seriously. He indeed looked pretty good and moved rather well don't you think??

Wish I could find the complete Santaku programme.

You're very welcome Peg!
Yeah, Sanma had that very serious look on his face during the dance, I was sure he was going to bust out laughing or do something silly!

I found the video on Veoh, it's in three parts.

Part 2
Part 3
