Mindless Games (Suggestions?)
I am in desperate (there goes another female superlative) need of some truly mindless games. I used to like jigsaw puzzles but, with a fur person of the kitty persuasion around, a table with loose puzzle pieces becomes an irresistable field of prey! (What I like about j-puzzles is the tactile setting in order, the removing of chaos--somehow this decompresses my mind.)
Any suggestions out there? Of course I still run the risk of cat on top of monitor, hanging tail directly in middle of screen, or the other cat routine of plopping herself down between the keyboard and the screen, obscuring half of it while she looks at me and smiles. Come to think of it, even that's not as bad as writing with fountain pens (love a good pen), while she ever so intently watches the ink flow onto the paper, attempting to paw at those mysterious black things issuing from the nib.
Thx for any suggestions.

Try this on-line jigsaw puzzle or the others at that site. There are options to change the number and shapes of the puzzle pieces.

Re: Mindless Games (Suggestions?)
Are we talking here about mind-less/time-waster games, gee I always thought that was the whole point of the inter-net? I kidd. Now I remember when I was a kid we these things called books and magazines, you carried them around and they made fine felis swatters. Of course if the felis was over 80 pounds it became more of an interesting contest over who fed first.
But as for games that are felis proof I highly recommend solitaire and Mahjong hand-held games. And if you got, they can be downloaded onto a PDA. Those don't have the oh-so cute sound-effects that I enjoy to annoy others and my Lab with.

For some reason puzzles were never seen as a "game" for me. They aren't really. They help connect a child's coordination, and especially for toddlers, help them learn how to put things together and how to take them out again. =)
Thanks for the SUGGESTION, Hiroshi! Well, I really didn't want to tell anybody this but I'm just now learning how to put things together and take them out again, while I toddle around the room. [TomCat, loan me that flyswatter.... WHAAAP!]
Game: An activity engaged in for amusement. Mindless: Simple and repetitive. (At least I got HALF of it right. )
To further elucidate, puzzles (strangely found in the "games" section of many retail stores) serve a distinct function for me that reading in itself does not. When I am literally weary of thinking, I find relief and restoration (an actual reversal of mind weariness) in switching to my intuitive side, using as many senses as I can. In soothing quietness (ergo, a soft, purring cat alongside), I like touching the pieces, fitting them together, seeing something take shape and come into order--sometimes just walking by and taking the time to find and fit only one or two pieces. At those times, I don't want more information, nor to compete for a score, or to hear electronic gaming noises, or to get sore thumbs.
The quickest (and shortest) fix with the biggest payoff (which I have used many a time in meetings where I can't bear to hear one more useless word and my eyes are juuust about to cross), is to begin writing backwards, then upside down and backwards, then repeating using the other hand. The only way I can describe the literal sensation is that it's like my brain itself went out for a walk in a brewing thunder storm (brisk, cool wind, few raindrops here and there--very refreshing to me). After just a minute or two of such writing, I can take on the world again.
Contrary to wasting time, I see puzzles and probably some other "games" out there as a productive use of my time when I need them.
